They have excellent comprehensive properties, high mechanical strength, good heat resistance, good electrical insulation, etc." Ma Zhanfeng, secretary-general of China Plastics Processing Industry Association, said.

Ma Zhanfeng said that engineering plastics, as a fast growing field in the world plastic industry, is playing an increasingly important role in the modern manufacturing industry. For example, the weight of automobiles can be reduced by 10% after they are lightened by using a lot of plastic accessories, thus saving a lot of fuel consumption.

Zhu Jin, chairman of the Plastics Special Committee of the China Plastics Processing Industry Association, said that because the market demand of the downstream of the engineering plastics industry chain is concentrated in the automobile, household appliances, building materials and other industries, leading enterprises in these industries have large production scale, so the market demand for engineering plastics is also large.

In recent five years, the annual demand growth rate of engineering plastics in China has remained above 12%. It is estimated that in the next five years, engineering plastics will develop at an annual growth rate of 13% - 18%, which is not only higher than the development rate of ordinary plastics and the entire petroleum and chemical industry, but also far higher than the demand growth rate of the international engineering plastics market of 4% - 6%.
